Given the crazy state of the world at the moment I thought I’d do a purely cosy/warm blog post that makes you want to just jump onto the sofa, and curl up with a blanket and a steaming cup of tea.
Days are so uncertain right now. Things can change from one hour to the next and for a control enthusiast like myself who is prone to extreme anxiety… it’s a little much at the moment. But, I know I’m not the only one to feel like this. My favourite way to zone out and escape the world (apart from reading) is to watch movies/tv. I’ve got my go to shows and movies that make me feel like the world is not falling apart around me. I thought I’d share them with you. ❤
Pride and Prejudice (2005)
This will be no surprise to some of you, but this had to be at the top of my list. I can have this movie play on a loop and never get sick of it, but, it’s also one of the greatest representations of the book (in my humble opinion). If I ever am feeling anxious this movie is always the one I go to first!
Grown Ups 1&2
I could seperate these two but I decided not to as they are really similar. Phil and I have watched these two recently and I forgot how much I loved them. From the acting to the writing, it’s just hilarious and always makes me laugh. I’m not usually a fan of Adam Sandler, but I LOVE him in these movies.
Little Women (2020)
This one only came out recently and since I’ve loved the book since I was little I was worried that they were going to change it. (Like hollywood tends to do with classics!) But, they packed everything in to it and all the little changes they did make, only made it better. (Which is something I never thought I’d say.) It does draw you in and the story is quite an emotional one, so if you want something easy, this one might not suit. But it does score high on the cosy scale!
Completely different to Little Women. But, this is probably one of my favourite comedy movies. You know you’re onto something good when you find out the movie is about a group of grown men who have been playing the same game of tag for twenty years. It’s based on a true story which is just crazy to me. It is so funny and has some amazing comedic actors in it. This is Phil and I’s go to.
The Age of Adeline
Blake Lively. Check. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Check. Beautifully written. Check. Outstanding soundtrack. Check. This movie… I just… it’s amazing. I wish it was a book, but it was an original idea which actually is quite impressive. 10/10 on the cosy scale, but grab a box of tissues because you might be needing them.
Basically, anything Richard Curtis writes I will watch and be in love with. He has such a unique way of writing relatable characters into an outlandish love story, that you kinda wish happened in real life. Although Hugh Grant tends to play the same guy in every movie he is in… (very diverse acting there…) he is great in this! It’s also witty and will make you laugh so there is a bonus!
Okay. I know this is technically a children’s film, and a grown woman such as myself probably shouldn’t be dragging her partner to the cinema to see it and subsequently re-watching it over and over again when it comes out on DVD. But I do! This movie just makes my soul happy and I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. ❤
Cheerful Weather For The Wedding
This movie is so well written. It’s based off of a book, (which I haven’t read) but it is an amazing character driven film. Felicity Jones does an amazing job in it as well. It’s kind of a quirky movie. Wonderfully British, with a story line that will break your heart and make you feel warm and fuzzy at the same time.
The Hitman’s Bodyguard
Ryan Reynolds in one of his best performance’s, (apart from deadpool obviously.) It is an action movie, so it’s not really cosy but it’s funny as hell. The perfect movie to flick on when you’re tired and just want to zone out from the world.
The Lord Of The Rings
I don’t think you will ever get a better time to watch a 12 hour movie! Of course I’m talking about the extended editions… there are no others… This is the ultimate cosy movie. I’ve watched the first two last weekend and I just need to finish the last one. Luckily, I’ve got time. 10/10 for cosiness, but if you do decide to watch them then give your self some designated breaks! and don’t forget the snacks. ❤
There it is – my ultimate list of cosy movies. I do have quite eclectic tastes, but I hope this list gives you some inspiration for your next movie night. ❤
