It seems to be something we all have to put up with at this time of year. As soon as November rolls around and everyone can see the gleam of Christmas inching ever closer… It’s like a white mist descends… stress! Whether it’s running around trying to find the perfect gift for someone or dealing with shopping centres full of pushy people who care very little about anyone else. And don’t even get me started on trying to find a parking spot in December, it’s near impossible!
But, it really shouldn’t be like that. This is the time of year when people are supposed to have joy and love, but it seems that all that happens is they get an ever growing list of things to do before the 25th and everything else goes out the window. It’s so easy to get caught up in the ‘stress trap’. It’s become almost like a badge of honour for some, to see who’s the busiest. Call me old fashioned (and many do), but, I have a different way of doing things.
This is, without a doubt, my favourite time of year, as you might have guessed from my very festive Instagram. And, my philosophy on most things is quite simple – live for the little things. So when I find myself wanting to cry over my never ending to do list, I turn my mind to focus on the small things that give me joy. Whether that’s playing my favourite songs on the piano (there’s a lot of Christmas Carols going on at the moment), reading my book (Pride and Prejudice), watching The Holiday (my favourite movie), sitting in front of my Christmas tree and listening to an audiobook (The Christmasaurus by Tom Fletcher is the one I’m currently listening to) or something as simple as buying my favourite coffee and driving around my neighbourhood listening to Christmas songs. Having little things that bring you joy and peace can completely change your mindset from the ‘stress trap’.
Life gets busy, and things do get complicated. We don’t always have the time to stop and slow down. But giving yourself that extra few minutes of sleep in the morning, indulging in your favourite chocolate, or even just wearing that super comfy outfit that you love, can make all the difference in the world.
Some festive pictures to get you feeling all cosy!
