Simple + Easy DIY Advent Calendar

Welcome to my own version of Blogmas! Twice a week you can click on here and get into the festive spirit. There will be recipes/DIY/personal blogs/Tips, and of course lots and lots of books! This is my favourite time of year and I can’t wait to share everything with you guys!

I am so excited that christmas is finally just around the corner. All the shops have started to put their decorations up, grocery stores are selling mince pies and christmas pudding and it’s now socially acceptable to start listening to christmas music! Hurrah!

I’ve always loved the act of buying presents for people, taking the time to make sure it’s perfect and then giving it to them, knowing they’re going to love it. It’s one of the best bits about this time of year if you ask me. This year, I wanted to do something special and different. I really wanted to make a big deal about the lead up christmas, after all it’s where all the excitement takes place.

So, I decided to make an Advent Calendar for my parents. But, I’ve made it with a twist. Instead of 24 presents each, to open everyday; I’ve made it 6 presents each, which they open on every Saturday and Sunday leading up to Christmas. This means that I could really spend a lot more time and money, making the presents meaningful and something they both will enjoy.

I thought I would make a blog post about it, incase you wanted to make a similar one for someone you love – it’s super simple and really fun ❤

  • A wooden crate/box (Here’s the one I used)
  • White Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Brown Paper
  • Tape
  • Twine
  • Cream coloured cards
  • 6/12 gifts, tailored to the person you’re making it for.

Paint the box/crate so it’s covered white. Leave to dry overnight. You can choose whether you want to write on the box or not. I didn’t because I was going for the vintage look.

You need to organize which presents you want them to open on which day, so write a list and put the dates they’ll be opening them next to the gift. That way you won’t get confused! I tried to build the presents up, so that when it got to the weekend before christmas that’s when they opened the best gift.

Then, put on your favourite christmas movie and start wrapping! Make sure you attach the tag to the gift as soon as you’ve wrapped it, so there’s no mix up. You can choose what you want to write on the tag, but, I went to start forward “Mum/Dad, open on…”

Once they’re all wrapped and tagged. Place them in the box, anyway you like, as long as the one they’ll be opening first is sitting on the top.

It’s such a simple way to make someone feel special! I hope this gives you some inspiration to make your own advent calendar ❤
