Bibliophile…

Does anyone else have a mountain of books in their ‘to be read’ pile? Just me? Ok then…

My list seems to get bigger and bigger every week. If I’m being totally honest, I do nothing to stop the situation as I am a complete sucker for a new book! So the pile that sits neatly on my bedside table is getting so big, I’m considering knocking a hole in the ceiling just to accommodate them. This week alone I bought three new books, I only claim partial responsibility, as I am (thankfully) married to a fellow bookworm who eggs me on with phrases like, “Go on, they’re not too expensive”, “You’ve got the shelf space” (I do not have the shelf space FYI), “They sound great, you’ll love them!”. And the final nail in the coffin, when I’ve at long last convinced myself that I do not need the complete poetic works of T.S. Elliot, he says, “I’ll get that one for you, my love”. So really it’s not my fault… it’s not… honestly…

I am currently on a quest to read all of the ‘classics’ that I’ve never read. Catcher in the Rye, Gulliver’s Travels, Anna Karenina, Huckleberry Fin, Vanity Fair, Moby-Dick, The Grapes of Wrath, War and Peace, the list goes on and on and on. However, I’m starting off small, because if I decided to start with War and Peace, for instance, I’d take one look at the sheer size of it and give up. So that is why I’m starting with… The Wind in the Willows… don’t laugh… it was my favourite thing to watch when I was growing up and I’ve never read the book. It’s no Dickens or H.G. Wells, but it’s on my ‘to be read’ pile, so I’m sticking with it.

Along with my propensity to buy books at an alarming rate, I also have the weird habit of having more than one book on the go at the same time. Does anyone else do this? Just me again? Right…

Currently, I have around five-six books I’m reading at the moment. I call myself an ’emotional reader’, so I’ve got a non-fiction book for when I’m feeling the need to educate myself on a certain subject, I’ve got a book of short stories, a couple of fiction novels, and a self-help book. I think that’s perfectly acceptable.

Are you one of those people, (like my darling husband) that can only read one book at a time? Or are you like me? Comment down below!
